03 — About

A voice built from poetry first

Tulile Siyumbwa is a sonic storyteller from Lusaka, Zambia, whose alternative neo-soul sound is deeply intertwined with her roots in spoken word and slam poetry.

Her style is shaped by a wide-spanning odyssey of influences — from the haunting textures of Thom Yorke to the timeless soul of Floetry and Erykah Badu, and the spare arrangements of Sleeping At Last. On projects like Meditations In The Dark, she uses music as a canvas to process survival, hope, and the shared human condition.

10 — What they said

Tulile is one of those artists who leaves a lasting impression. We've had the pleasure of hosting her twice at Sofar Sounds Lusaka this year, first as a solo act and then as part of The Sisters of the South, and each performance was nothing short of captivating. Her magnetic voice, rich neo-soul sound, and effortless stage presence draw you in from the very first note. While there are beautiful echoes of Erykah Badu in her tone, Tulile brings an authenticity and artistry that is entirely her own. She has a rare ability to create an intimate connection with every audience. We'd welcome her back to Sofar Sounds Lusaka anytime and recommend her wholeheartedly.

Elaine Chimuka, Curator
Sofar Sounds Lusaka

Tulile has become one of my favourite local artists. There is something about her voice, songwriting and overall musicality that really stands out and I think she has a quality that deserves to be heard much more widely.
